While a buttermilk racer may look dangerous to some people, they’re not. Not only are they not venomous, they are fairly non-aggressive. They often put on a display, as if they will bite, but seldom do they actually bite. As the image to the left shows, they present an intimidating front, but when their bluff is called, they submit willingly. We have seen dozens of them on our property and have picked up almost as many, and never once has anyone been bitten.
